In this unit, students compare and contrast different fictional text including folktales and fables.

Students will identify the important details from fables and folktales from around the world.  Using the information they have gleaned from the fables and folktales, the students will compare and contrast multiple versions of the same story.

Today I will use context clues, so that I can find out the meaning of a word or phrase.  I’ll know I have it when I can use strategies to help me determine the meaning of unknown words. 

 


2.RL.9- I can compare and contrast two or more versions of the same story from different cultures and authors.

 

Today I will compare and contrast two versions of the same story, so that I can notice similarities and differences.  I’ll know I have it when I can identify how stories are alike and different.

 

 

 

2.RL.1- I can ask and answer questions such as who, what, where, how, when and why to show that I understand important details from the text.

 

Today I will ask and answer questions, so I can better understand important details from the text.  I’ll know I have it when I can ask and answer meaningful questions and prove my answer with evidence from the text.

 

 

2.RL.2 I can determine the moral/lesson from stories including fables and folktales.

 

Today I will determine the moral/lesson of the story, so that I can infer the message of the story.  I’ll know I have it when I can determine the lesson the character learned in the story.
