Students identify 2-dimensional shapes and 3-dimensional shapes. Students will also describe attributes of both 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional shapes. Students will demonstrate knowledge of positional words.

Unit will focus on identifying 2-dimensional shapes (circle, triangle, rectangle, square, oval, diamond, hexagon) and 3-dimensional shapes (sphere, cube, cone, cylinder) in isolation as well as identifying shapes in the environment. Students will also construct a larger shape by placing two shapes together. Students will also construct both 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional shapes from a variety of materials.

b.  Describe the relative positions of these objects using terms above, below, infront of, behind and next to.

KY.K.G.2 Correctly name shapes regardless of their orientations or overall size.

KY.K.G.3 Identify shapes as two-dimensional or three-dimensional.  

KY.K.G.4 Describe the similarities, differences and attributes of two and three dimensional shapes using different sizes and orientations.

KY.K.G.5 Model shapes in the world by building shapes from components and drawing shapes.

KY.K.G.6 Compose simple shapes to form larger shapes.
