ESSENTIAL QUESTION

What are the complementary colors? What is a cityscape? What happens when you mix 2 complements together? How are you going to use your value scale for this painting?

Complementary Land/Cityscape
Students will sketch a land or cityscape on illustration board,then paint using a limited palette with a complementary pair of their choice (yellow/violet, blue/orange, or red/green, plus the addition of white).

Students will select 2-3 photos from the internet, they will create "thumbnail" sketches of each photo.  After the thumbnails are complete they will sketch their final selection onto illustration board.

After the sketch is complete, students will select a complementary pair, and create a value scale, mixing only those two colors.

Last, students will paint their drawing, using only 2 complements, plus the addition of white to their board.
